Daily Didactic
Again, our morning began in the disorienting comfort of a real bedroom. We had our second home cooked breakfast of the trip, before walking to the P-A-R-K to exercise the children. Walking around the town of Lake Geneva is great fun for fans of old houses, which Brian and Theresa are, as house after house has very cool architecture and detail to look at. The historic homes are mostly late 1800's and early 1900's and many have been beautifully restored. We eventually made it to the P-A-R-K, which is right next to the school Joey has just transferred to. Joey now has a three block walk to work, and Theresa let him know it was about time. We took a quick school tour, met his new mentor teacher who was inexplicably in her room on July 19th, and hit the playground to work some energy out of the kids. After Brian had explored all of the new playground equipment, we headed back to the house for our last home grilled meal before hitting the road west. Joey and Anissa are two of the most gracious hosts we have yet had the pleasure of intruding on, and saying goodbye was sad. It is clear that we will have to intrude again and we genuinely hope to be intruded on some day soon.

When we finally left Lake Geneva, we headed west on Wisconsin Highway 50, crossing the Mississippi River and the Iowa border at Dubuque. We then angled southwest on Iowa 151, through wildy clean little midwest town after wildy clean little midwest town, finally stopping for the night at the extraordinarily well kempt Palisades-Kepler State Park, just southeast of Rapid City. We headed back into nearby Mount Vernon to upload some web pages and grab a little dinner, eventually returning to our camp site for the night.

Due to the sun, you'll have to take our word for it. Iowa welcomes us. A none too scenic shot of an otherwise presentable Dubuque
