Day One - Sep 29, 2026
Anchorage, AK to Tok, AK
Daily Didactic
Our Monday morning departure came promptly Tuesday afternoon. That said, it might have been a record for us. Brian got some last-minute van projects done while Theresa did the heavy lifting of packing food and pretty much everything else. Anchorage was enjoying a spectacular fall day, with just the beginnings of termination dust in the Chugach foothills. It seemed like a ridiculous day to leave.
We stopped at Mountain View car wash to spray a month or two worth of van cabinet construction dust off the vehicle and hit the road. The drive north was spectacular fall foliage colors and generally good road. We passed through Palmer and Sutton and slowed down in Eureka for a snack. We did not stop in Glenallen, because our new gas tank goes very far. We drove into a snow storm north of Chistochina. We limped the remaining hour or so to Eagle Trail Campground, fired up the van’s new heater and reheated some leftovers in our tiny confines, enjoying being indoors and protected from the elements.
