Daily Didactic

The day started at the completely unacceptable hour of 3:30am. We had to gather ourselves and walked the half hour to the FlyBus station. We caught the 4:30 bus to the airport and were through security, etc., by 5:45. We killed an hour waiting to board, and then settled in for the longest leg of the day. The flight to Frankfurt was three and a half hours and felt like Anchorage to Seattle. In Frankfurt we had a good five hour layover. We checked in with low fare carrier AirBerlin and then sought out that mana from heaven, the lounge chair with power for the afternoon. Eventually finding the spot, we computed, arted and napped until around 6:00pm when we went to find our AirBerlin gate. Our AirBerlin flights were dirt cheap and accommodations were lower, but much nicer than Ryanair. We flew from Frankfurt and had a quick and chaotic transfer in Berlin-Tegel. A little under two hours later we had made it to right outside customs of the former Soviet Union. A few bureaucratic and form driven missteps later we were in the arrival hall looking for a guy with a sign that said "Heckart". Our transfer service appeared to be missing (at 2:00am). While Brian was trying to figure out how to use his cell phone in Russia, Theresa spotted a young man with a sign that said "Brain". Obviously us. A 30 minute and energetic car ride across town later, we were checking in at our hostel and called it the end to a long day around 3:30am.
