Daily Didactic

The day began at Mike and Glenda's just outside of Seattle. Brian is pleased to note that their recently finished remodel has finally formalized his room, bath and separate entrance. After seeing Mike, Glenda, Adam and Amanda off to work, appointments and summer camp, Brian and Theresa headed into Seattle for a day of touristing. After securing some awefully spendy parking on Seattle's waterfront, we walked and shopped through Pike's Place Market, hit a cafe for some brunch and headed for the Seattle Art Museum. After a pleasant look at the museum's collection, we headed back to the waterfront and got our new car out of hock. Next we were off to the collosal new REI we had spied from the freeway. After poking around REI, we headed off by foot to the new Experience Music Project, a big music museum type thing built by Microsoft's co-founder Paul Allen. The EMP is definitelly an experience, and not a cheap one at $20 a piece. After paying admittance you are outfitted with a large CD device with a shoulder strap and a remote Palm Pilot type controller. As you wander around you aim your Palm Pilot at exhibits and it wirelessly takes a cue and starts the appropriate audio program on your CD device. Very complicated, pretty cool, very crowded. There are long lines for the popular exhibits, the Jimi Hendrix Gallery and the Jam Studio. The "Funk Blast" is a must. After returning to REI and our vehicle, we extracted ourselves from Seattle and headed north to Bellingham to the home of another pal, Mike's brother Chris.
