Daily Didactic

Today was a good old fashioned AlCan day; predictable, productive, easy to understand. Predictable, because there are not a lot of options for deviation from the course. Productive, because every mile counts towards getting somewhere. Easy to understand, because you are simply driving from one town/gas stop to the next, paying whatever they happen to want for gas, and enjoying the scenery. We rose early in Summit Lake Provincial Campground and rocketed toward one of Brian's favorite rest stops, Liard Hot Springs. Trying to make good time and not wanting to get too distracted by sulfurous hot tubbing, we stuck to lower pool and made it a relatively quick soak. It was a moderate wildlife day, but it included something we have not seen on the road before, bison. Other than the bison, there were caribou and the ever present exploding Stone Sheep. The day's drive moves on from Liard through Watson Lake, Teslin (where Brian clutched the gas cap with all of his strength), Whitehorse, Haines Junction, Destruction Bay, and Burwash Landing. About two hours north of Burwash, and nearly 800 miles from where we started, we settled in for our second night of Beetle camping at Snag Junction Provincial Campground. There should be a real bed in store for us tomorrow night...
