Day Four - Jun 16, 2011
Malinmore, Ireland
Daily Didactic
Our day began in the very nice and slightly chilly Aras Ghleann Cholm Cille B&B. After another plate of egg and meats, we intended to hike the infamous Slieve League trail, over the highest (or third highest, depending on who is making the claim) sea cliffs in Europe. The weather was a little Irish for that to feel safe, so we headed to the village of Glencolumbkille to poke about. We got immediatelly sidetracked and headed to Malin Beg instead. The short drive turned up really narrow windy backroads, a tower in the distance, more sheep than you can shake a stick at, and a nice beach walk. After beach walking and shaking sticks at sheep, we headed back north and after a very similar drive in Glencolumbkille we found our selves at a trailhead of some sort. We "hillwalked" (what we locals call hiking) and eventually ended up on some very tall cliffs staring at a tower. Pretty spectacular. To celebrate it all we hit the folk museum tea shop for a little lunch and Irish coffee, did some shopping, and enjoyed a pint at Biddy's pub before returning to our home for a little homemade dinner. Short of spotting a leprechaun, a hard day to make much better.
