Day Seven - Jun 19, 2011
Roundstone, Ireland to Dingle Town, Ireland
Daily Didactic
Today was a driving day with tourist characteristics. We started with another excellent breakfast at the Island View B&B. The Irish appear to have breakfast pretty much figured out. We meandered from Roundstone through Galway and then down the coast (not at all like the map below) to the Burren. The Burren is a geological feature which for all the world looks like a barren ridge of mountain in a pretty fertile countryside. We drove up and over it and carried on to the day's feature, the Cliffs of Moher. We're not sure where they rate in the sea cliff height competition, but they are really high. The main trail keeps you behind a high rock wall, but the masses all seem to climb over the no trespassing signs for a toe tingling cliff walk. Rick Steves says the wall went up because of tumbling tourists. We can see that. We drove from the cliffs to a ferry across the River Shannon and Todd enjoyed some pretty civilized road to the town of Dingle. We checked into our B&B (which actually has a pub attached, nicely done), found a bite to eat, and wandered the quaint little town of Dingle before calling it an evening.
