Tonight's Lodging: Island View B&B

Daily Didactic

Our morning started in the picturesque little town of Roundstone. Our sole agenda item for the day was to visit Dun Aonghasa, a 2000 B.C. fort ruin on the island of Inishmore, south of Roundstone. After an awesome breakfast, we piled in Peugot and Brian took his first stab at wrong side driving. The road to the ferry port at Rossaveel was at points ridiculously thin with rock walls for shoulders on both sides, which were in turn hidden in vegetation. Sneaky. The one hour ferry ride to Killnoran was exciting to the point that the crew handed out bags to the passengers. After making land, we rented bicycles and promptly headed the wrong way to the ruins. An hour or two and most of the island later, we found Dun Aonghasa at the top of the island on a crazy cliff. It was a spectacular view. After marveling for a while, we made our way back to a quick snack at Ti Joe Widdy's pub and another exciting ferry ride in ten foot swells. We worked our way back across the narrow Irish coutryside, had an excellent meal, and watched a little hurling with the locals before calling it a great day and a lovely evening.
