Day Ten - Jun 7, 2017
Budapest, Hungary to Zagreb, Croatia
Daily Didactic
Today's agenda was simple. Walk back across the Chain Bridge, explore Capital Hill and be at Keleti train station in time for our afternoon train to Zagreb. We got out the door around 9:00 for a quick trip across the Chain Bridge to walk around the very walkable Capitol Hill area of Buda. A nice old cobblestone road took us up the hill underneath the Palace, an enormous building which appears to be one part functioning government offices and other parts museum. The weather was thankfully overcast (and cooler than it has been) for a walk uphill. While it threatened rain all morning, it never materialized and we made short order of walking around the Palace, past the Castle, and wandering the streets of old town Budapest. It was a lovely morning constitutional and we were walking back across the bridge toward our flat by 11:00. We did a little travel shopping and a made a repeat performance at Al-Amir, the Syrian restaurant from yesterday. Klara's next guests were coming in late today, so we were able to leave our bags in our flat until 1:00, when we headed for Keleti Station. Our train ride today was a little over six hours and was very comfortable. It unfortunately got us into Zagreb a little later than we like, but our new host Ivan was awesome enough to meet us at the station at 9:10 in the pouring rain and dark. It would have been a long and confusing walk to our new pad without that assist. We settled into our cozy little apartment by 9:30 and called it a particularly productive day of touristing and travel.
