Day Two - Jun 13, 2014
Reykjavik, ISL to Pingvellir, ISL
Daily Didactic
Day two started where day one left off (at the Laundromat Cafe), so we have some overlap here. After a nice and Icelandically expensive breakfast, we had a few hours to kill before we could pick up our rental camper. We wandered the Reykjavik harbor for a bit and re-visited the crazy glass performing arts center, Harpa. Eventually we caught city bus 1 to the part of town our rental outfit was in. We had seen Kuku Campers last time we were here and said to ourselves that we should do business with them some day. The obvious end of that thought process is our picking up a 1971 Land Rover Defender today. This may or may not be a good idea. We'll see. After an hour of paperwork, guidance and cash we hit the road out of town, ostensibly for the Iceland Highlands. After picking up some groceries and then getting lost at least a half dozen times, we powered the Land Rover through a million Iceland highway roundabouts up to Pingvellir National Park for a much deserved 5 hour nap. We woke in the late evening for some epic spaghetti, trip planning, and then tried to get back to sleep at what is the middle of the afternoon back home.
