Day Twentyone - Jul 2, 2014
Paris, FRA
Daily Didactic
A short picture day. We initially headed out for a little breakfast at a well regarded local cafe and ended up making another Montemarte walk out of it. We hadn't thought to take a camera to breakfast, so ended up with an iphone photo collection. Breakfast was at the exceptional Colequicot Cafe. It was as good a we'd heard. Rather than going straight back home we (enthused by our placemat) decided to do a little more back street exploring of Montemarte and headed generally in the direction of the Montemarte Cemetery. The walk was delightful and the cemetery was really enormous. By all accounts it appeared to be the final resting place of the rich and famous if the size of the family crypts was any indication. It was also curiously partially under a highway bridge. It held a number of dignitaries, most notably to Theresa was painter Charles DeGas. We worked our way back up the backside of Montemarte and enjoyed a lovely walk in a half hearted search for Le Supercoin, reportedly one of three craft beer bars in all of Paris. The search was unsuccessful without a map or mobile internet, but entertaining. The rest of the day was spent in Mathilde's flat painting and relaxing, with a brief final dinner at the Pompodoro. Initially out of a sense of obligation, around 10:00 we climbed up the steps to Sacre Couer for the evening festivities. A few hours later we headed home after a very enjoyable evening of fire breathing, juggling and live music with the lights of the Paris as a backdrop. Viva la cultural experiences.
