Daily Didactic

It was another eventful day, filled with mishaps and touristing. We awoke very early in the quaint condensation of our metal home. We were on the road by 6:00 heading for Oxararfoss (foss means waterfall in Icelandic). We decided last night the Rover had adequate character to warrant a name. We figured something British, to suit it's country of manufacture. Brian suggested a few and settled on King George. Theresa chose her favorite British export, Fish & Chips. Theresa clearly had the winner. Chips it is. So, if Chips was like a tractor to drive yesterday (and he was), he was like a tank today. Brian could only surmise that his gearing was intended for climbing mountains and not for road travel and that maybe he was suffering from altitude timing. We enjoyed the beautiful hike to the falls, stopped in at the teeny church in old Pingvallir and tried to keep Chips rolling fast enough that he could make the hills in something other than 3rd gear. We got to Laugurvatn a few ours early for goal, Fontana hot springs, so we killed time with the buffet at Hotel Edda. When we came out, we could see that Chips had clearly sprung a leak. Brian lifted the hood and found diesel dripping from everything. We called Kuku Campers and an hour and a half later found ourselves sitting in a camper converted Mitsubishi something or other, a little sad and kind of excited by our replacement. The rest of the day was a series of Ring Road tourist must do's, Fontana Hot Springs, Geysir, Gulfoss and a idyllic drive through farm country before coming to rest in the wildly buggy, Sandartunga campground.
