Day Twentytwo - Jul 3, 2014
Paris, FRA to Oslo, NOR
Daily Didactic
Today we headed to meet our friends Todd and Cori. Old traveling companions, they suggested a road trip in Norway this summer. For us, this involves a mid afternoon flight from Paris to Oslo where Todd has secured us a night in a proper hotel. Before we got started, however, we climbed out of bed around 6:30 and headed up the hill to take a peak inside Sacre Couer without the crowds... The basilica was beautiful and an early morning mass was going on, so we didn't linger too long. We took a quick walk trying to find a cup of coffee, but seemed to have beaten the French out of bed. Stymied, we climbed our 139 steps for the last time and made breakfast from everything we had left in the fridge. After a marvelous potatoes, cheese and garlic breakfast, showers, packing, and a little salad for good measure, we descended from our loft. We initially decided to make it easier (and perhaps safer, having read too much internet about Paris metro thieves) and take a cab. When we reached the nearby taxi stand, true to our nature, we couldn't find a taxi. We could, however, find stairs descending to the metro and took the path of least resistance. An hour and a bit later, with a dash of confusion and crowding, we stepped out at the wrong terminal at Charles De Gaulle. Even factoring in unnecessary shuttles, long security lines, and expensive snacking, we found ourselves seated and ready to fly at 4:00. We were still seated and ready to fly at 6:00 when they finished fixing the hinge on the luggage door handle. Arriving a few hours late, we found our traveling companions, checked into our 24th floor rooms, had some really expensive and tasty seafood and called it a long travel day.
