Daily Didactic

We woke at a now jet lag free 8:30 to an consistent drizzle that reminded us of those misters you find in desert towns like Sedona. We prepped a little breakfast in our luxurious Mitsubishi Pajero and then headed over to the campground common building for some internet. Theresa planned the next couple of days while Brian uploaded a few days of travel. Around 11:00 we hit the road, a grocery store, a gas station, a bank and a quaint Farmers market in Hvolsvollur. We worked our way east toward Vik, breaking for two really large waterfalls. By the time we landed in Vik the drizzle had turned to real rain, so we enjoyed some lunch at the small Halldorskaffi cafe next to the TI and considered options. Theresa read that there was a pretty spectacular campground up in the mountains behind Vik and (since the weather didn't lend itself to a beach walk) we headed up toward Pakgil campground. The road almost rivaled yesterday's. As we drove up out of the weather, we wove through ridiculously green mountains and across glacial moraine. The crazy thing here is that there is so much rain and the ground is so fertile that everything is covered in vegetation, even rock outcroppings. It's like being in a chilly tropic. We arrived at the wildly scenic Pakgil campground around 4:30. Theresa painted the outdoors and Brian worked on what you are looking at. After a short walk and another epic dinner, we called it a day.
