Day Four - Jan 23, 2026
San Marcos La Laguna to San Pedro La Laguna
Daily Didactic
It’s a travel day of sorts, but just from one village on Lake Atitlan to another, and one Airbnb to another. Nice and simple. We rose late and packed slowly, with no rush for our mid afternoon San Pedro La Laguna check in. We reluctantly left our lakeside digs, said goodbye to our amigo Victor the gardener, and commuted through the adjacent nature reserve to the public boat dock. We wandered up just as the San Pedro public taxi was leaving and found ourselves in our new town by 11:30. We followed a few of our host’s recommendations and had a couple of salads with a view before weaving the back alleys to a wonderful coffee shop with a hidden garden. Tranquil and chill is what the cafe owner described as his goal and we think he’s got it nailed. A little after 2:00 we grabbed some groceries and climbed up the streets of the Pueblo to our new home. Our AirBNB host calls her place La Luna Lodge and while it is not what we think of as a lodge it is spectacular. Hand built from hardwoods on her property it is a piece of art with a view of the lake that is equally as spectacular. The property is an old family coffee farm and could keep a tinkerer busy for a lifetime. We are jealous. We settled in and navigated to a local bodega (where everything was a fraction the price of the shops by the dock) to buy some fruit and juice. The remainder of our day involved lounging on the porch with one of the lodge cats, eating some rudimentary dinner of Brian’s creation, and relaxing from all of our relaxing for the rest of the evening. Life is grand.
