Day Six - Jan 25, 2026
San Pedro La Laguna to Flores
Daily Didactic
Today was a travel day. They are not always great and this one was no different. In the scheme of things we made it from point A to point B with no real hiccups, so success. We started our day leisurely, reluctant to leave our little a-frame on the side of a volcano. We slept in, packed slowly, and headed out a little after 11:00 for some coffee and a small second breakfast at Orbe Cafe. We had an hour and a half to sip, eat, paint, and code before David the taxi driver picked us up for our return to Guatemala City Airport. The drive was slow, windy, and entertaining at times... but still a long slog. David got us to the airport within one minute of when he said he would, in spite of having to make a major detour because of an accident. The man was a saint simply for driving these roads. Our cautious padding of time before our flight left us with too much time at the gate, and we found ourselves in the back of the plane in the cheap seats because that is what we paid for. After landing at Maya Mundo International Airport, we were about to get a taxi to our hotel when Theresa noticed our hotel had come to get us (or at least someone else on our plane). We hopped in the open air safari commuter and were on the colonial streets in front of Hotel Isla De Flores in minutes. Exhausted, we got a quick bite at the rooftop bar, walked the narrow cobblestone streets a little bit just to loosen up, and returned to our room to hit the hay. Not a bad travel day, but a travel day nonetheless.
