Day Fifteen - Feb 4, 2026
Caye Caulker
Daily Didactic
It was a spectacular last day of this little adventure. We continued our bicycle exploration of Caye Caulker, fed tarpon and large birds, snorkeled the reef off of the island, swam with sharks, and got one of the best meals of our trip to round it all off. After breakfast, we started the day with a quick walk to secure a snorkel trip for the afternoon. Our first recommendation was short staff, but our second worked out perfectly. Booked up with the amusingly named Caveman Tours, we moved on to our second objective of the day, Cay Caulker Bakery. Here Theresa gathered a cinnamon roll and a danish for second breakfast. On the way back to the hideaway, Brian similarly scored a stuffed fry jack for the same reason. After making sure these did not have a chance to go bad, our group headed out for our daily bicycle exploration of the island. It never gets old. A few hours of biking, arting, snacking, and lunching later we returned to Caveman Tours. At 2:00pm we were fitted for equipment, briefed, introduced to Captain Alwin and first mate Gerald, and hurtling across the Western Caribbean Sea and then back through the Split in no time. On the west side of the island we stopped to feed the tarpon, and then gulls and pelicans, because that’s what you do here. It was actually pretty crazy stuff. We then returned to the east side of the island and (in sequence) snorkeled on our own in the reef, went on a guided snorkeling tour with Captain Alwin, and swam with nurse sharks. It was both photographically undocumented and absolutely spectacular. At 5:00 we returned to shore and bid farewell to our new favorite tour company. Our last dinner of the trip brought us to the relatively upscale Reina’s for a delicious meal. This was followed by one last tournament of Skyjo, in which Brian graciously allowed the others to win for a change. After an ambitious and enjoyable day of adventuring, we hit the hay with our alarms set for ridiculously early.
