Daily Didactic

Well that’s quite a view to wake up to. We rose early, the sunlight flooding the upstairs, and made it out quickly in search of breakfast. We stayed close to home at a nearby cafe, before exploring a stretch of ungentrified Lake Atitlan beach. After that detour, we walked 20 minutes or so in the direction of the busy San Pedro wharf. Before the population got too thick, we headed down a back alley to revisit one of yesterday’s highlights, Tornado’s Cafe. Theresa did art and Brian worked on what you are reading until our coffees were empty and we felt like we should accomplish more. We stocked up at an ATM and hit the docks for a quick water taxi to the sleepy little art community of San Juan La Laguna. Except that it wasn’t. Possibly more crowded than downtown San Pedro, San Juan made us feel a little bad to be a part of the problem. We found some beautiful murals and some excellent ice cream, before we called it a touristic experience and headed home. A nap and some lounging back at our lodge eventually gave way to a couple of spectacular burgers in the early evening, before the day completely ground to a glorious productivity halt.
