Day Sixteen - Feb 5, 2026
Caye Caulker to Anchorage
Daily Didactic
As long travel days go, this was about the best we could have hoped for. We rose at the ungodly hour of 6:00, packed, and ate a little breakfast before our pre-arranged golf cart taxi picked us up. After the quick ride to Caye Caulker Municipal Airport, we checked in and waited for our Cessna Caravan to arrive. It was Theresa’s first ride in a small(er) plane, and she was excited and well rewarded with a beautiful view of the islands and seafloor between Caye Caulker and the mainland. We got to Belize City with plenty of time to sit around the airport, during which Brian checked his email and found that we had been upgraded to first class on the second leg of our trip. This was very exciting for us, and neither of us truly believed it until much later in the day when our butts were planted in 3D and 3F. Better yet, the first leg turned out to be a half full plane and we ended up in our exit row with an empty seat. So, plenty of extra room today for our nine hours of air time. Living large. We also had about 5 hours to kill at LAX, and access for the first time to two lounges. The Centurion we know and have mixed feelings about. That said we also know the food there is always pretty great, so we took the ridiculously long walk and shuttle system to the international terminal and got some late lunch. Then (in what turned out to be a mistake) we left long before we had to and headed to the Alaska Lounge in the D terminal by our departure gate. This turned out to be very small, with nowhere to sit until we got competitive. Ultimately we were there for a few hours and that is probably enough. At 7:20 we boarded our flight with those who always board before us, and settled into the life we’d like to become accustomed to for our second 4 and a half hour stint. The seats were great, food tasty, and attention to our needs heightened. Around midnight Anchorage time we disembarked, caught an Uber home, and called it the end to a very enjoyable adventure.
