Daily Didactic

Today was what the kids call a “chill” day. Or that’s what we call it. We’re a little out of touch with the kids at this point. We woke up a little after 9:00 and were both moving by 9:30. We had a quiet breakfast in, and our requisite amount of coffee and tea. Having decided on another bicycle exploration in the afternoon, Theresa headed off to find a place to sit and paint. Brian and Tim took the opportunity to saunter about the island. Eventually, all four of us met for a little lunch. Rather than follow everyone else’s instinct to try some local barbecue, Brian talked the group into some mediocre pub food at the islands’s only brewery. Learning. We headed out shortly after lunch for our third day of island exploration by bicycle. It was, again, a fun chance to get some exercise and see the “off the beaten path” neighborhoods of the island. Following the encouragement of a lady we met in an alley, we stopped by the Tarpon feeding dock to watch other tourists feed sardines to these enormous fish by hand. It was one part amusing, one part a little terrifying. We, sadly, had not had enough to drink to participate. The remainder of the evening brought spaghetti leftovers, more enjoyable conversation with our travel companions, and a quick Mayan documentary before we called it an active and successful day in paradise.
