Daily Didactic

We began the morning by sadly extracting ourselves from Venice. We like Venice. For as touristy as it was, we ended up in a flat in a quiet neighborhood which gave the place a whole different feel. We walked to the San Lucia station and caught a train a little earlier than we intended that wasn't even on our Eurail timetable. We realized shortly into our ride that it was stopping at every station on the way and that (as a regional train), there was a good chance our pass didn't cover it. Fortunately nobody checked our tickets. We stopped in Padua to visit the Scrovegni chapel, where Giotti's greatest fresco work is to be found. After some art appreciation and lunch, we climbed on the train to Florence. Long story short we learned halfway to Florence (from the conductor guy) that this was a "reservations compulsory" train. He was good enough to sell us reservations on the train, but ultimately it was our second train of the day we probably shouldn't have boarded. We'll get this figured out... We got to Florence and checked into our hotel, a nice little room in a fourth floor walk up. We wandered off to find dinner and, while we couldn't find the dinner we were after, we found the Duomo instead. Brian judged by Theresa's excitement that this was another "big one" and this was correct. We hit a market for some wine and cheese and headed home to a simple meal and a good sleep.
