Copenhagen, Denmark to Stockholm, Sweden
Daily Didactic
We were up and out the door early today. We had to pack, cook up a little extra food we had in the fridge, and catch an 8:30 train to Stockholm. We caught the train without a hitch and settled in for a five hour ride to Stockholm. We napped, arted, computed, and read, in what we've really come to appreciate as "train timeouts". We got into Stockholm around 1:30 and found our way through the tourist center to "Old Town" where our hostel is. We were pleasantly surprised. For whatever reason we hadn't really expected much of Stockholm, but it is really a very pretty city. We found our hostel and were able to check in a little early. We received a surprisingly enthusiastic welcome from the girl that worked the front desk, with those eating and touristing suggestions from a local that you hope for. We settled in, unpacked, recovered from an early morning, and eventually headed out to test one of her dinner recommendations. We walked through the idyllic (if not heavily touristed) Old Town, around Stockholm harbor, and up a hill to "Hermans". The place was a large, packed, vegetarian buffet with a ridiculously nice view of the harbor and old town. In Stockholm it is considered reasonably priced. This means each plate only sets you back $30. It was an absolutely awesome meal and all, but a little spooky as we have three days here and three days in Oslo to go before heading south. We've decided we're just going to pretend we are spending two weeks back home. After as many plates as we could shovel in, we walked back home and called it an early evening with a little iTunes television in our very cute little hostel room.
