Daily Didactic

It was a really pleasant travel day. We managed to get up early, pack, and walk the half mile or so to the train station. It was a beautiful morning in Stockholm and we were a little sad to leave when we were on such good terms (with the city, we are also on good terms but that's not what we meant). We will say that in two and a half months we've managed to get the train thing down, it's been a long time since we had to get out of someone's seat or got on the wrong train... The ride through the Norwegian countryside was lovely and the further north we head the more things sort of look like home. Brian was sure he saw some spindly black spruce. We rolled into Lillestrom around 1:30 and transfered to a bus. Oslo Central Station is apparently under construction, so the last half hour of today's journey was a bus ride. Armed with our Google map and (more importantly) an understanding of straight streets, we found our hotel without incident. We have splurged for a room with a kitchenette, armed with the understanding that Oslo is the most expensive city in Europe and can apparently make both Bern and Stockholm look like deals. We promptly celebrated a relaxing day of travel with a nap, and then took a walk to the grocery store. Good lord. Spaghetti and salad makings, bread, a little juice and some beverages tallied in at $60 US. We returned to our little studio and whipped up an expensive little bite to eat and washed it down with a nice walk in the late evening rain. We know our friends back home will wince when we say it, but we are happy to see a little rain. We returned home after dark, set our umbrella out to dry, and called it a productive day.
