Daily Didactic

Our day started with a early departure from overcast Bern. We really like Bern. We also look forward to be able to afford food again. We caught our first of two trains from Bern to Basel at 9:30ish and an hour later we transferred to our Basel to Paris train for a three hour ride. Theresa painted and Brian got distracted by an iPad game. The train was a France TGV train which means two things. First, in spite of our Eurail Pass, reservations were still $50. Second, it was ridiculously fast. Today, because it was the difference between three and six hours travel time, we paid. We probably won't again. We hurtled through the French countryside and landed in Paris about 1:30. We were meeting our apartment renter Sam at 3:00 and Google said it should take 39 minutes to walk to our flat. We decided to walk. For whatever reason we are almost two months into this and we still head off across cities with the Google maps Brian printed out before we left with no street names. We were ten minutes late when we finally found the place. Sam met us and showed us the smallest room we've ever rented. We knew that going in and the "location to price analysis" is well worth it, but it is a 30 square foot room at best. We love it. We headed off for a snack and then did a little foot exploration. When it came time for dinner, we Yelped a little French restaurant nearby and found one of our funnest meals of the trip. In what we suspect is a full blown tourist act, we had escargot (snails) and they were really, really awesome. We shared a duck plate and then Theresa had what Brian understands was one of the best desserts ever. We wandered home through Luxembourg Gardens in the later evening, pulled out our convertible bed to fill most of our flat, and fell asleep happy to be in Paris.
