Daily Didactic

It was a slow picture day, as most of the day was spent in the Museo Prado where cameras and not allowed. We got going late and headed toward the museum, stopping long enough for a small breakfast at a nice little cafe. We moved on, and a few minutes later used a little more of Theresa's research kung foo to bypass a really long line by buying our tickets at a kiosk right next to that line and then walking around the corner and using a different entrance for people with tickets. Weird. The next five hours (minus a cafe break midway) involved looking at hundreds of pieces of art sprinkled with big deals. Today's big deals included Las Meninas by Velazquez, and a bunch of Titian, Tintoretto, and Reubens. In five hours we made it through the second floor, rooms 1-44. Prado day two will complete the challenge. Resurfacing at the end of the afternoon, Theresa was feeling either exhausted or sick and we headed back to our room for a siesta. An hour or two later she decided she was done for the day. Brian headed out to grab some sustenance and after traveling in almost every direction and not finding a suitable sounding "take away" option or a market, he stumbled across a subterranean supermercado. A little later back in the room with an armload of sliced meat, cheese and baguette he made Theresa a perfectly edible meal.
