Daily Didactic

Our day started very late. We got up in time for lunch and headed back to "the best chicken in Lisbon". Closed on Sunday. We found another cafe and settled. Today we need to mail some excess baggage we've been carrying around to the states before boarding a flight on Monday. Our packs will both fit easily in the overhead compartments of planes and are smaller than a lot of roller bags (which saves us a lot of money on checked luggage), but they are just under the official size requirements and have been bulging a bit as we've picked up some more appropriate clothing. We found a post office that was open on Saturday, and unloaded our day pack into a box. We had expected a ridiculous price, but it turned out to be 25 euros, which seems like a deal. It will be an even better deal if it finds Anchorage. We took another walk around downtown Lisbon and enjoyed the weather and the breeze. In the early evening, we wandered for a while trying to find dinner, which didn't seem to be working out on a Sunday night. Eventually we saw an open door under a restaurant awning and took a look at their menu. Our tour guide yesterday had talked about something called "steak on a stone", where you the customer cook your own steak on a stone. This sounded interesting, but complicated. On the other hand fondue is not complicated, so Brian was game. It turns out to be a brilliant idea. You cut the raw meat up as you go, place it on the stone, it cooks, and every bite is hot and juicy. You can find kits online, Brian checked. Sated, we headed home for an early evening, watched a movie on iTunes (The Big Easy Express, good movie), and got to sleep about four hours earlier than last night.
