Daily Didactic

A great day. We rose at a reasonable hour, found some pastry and coffee for cheap because we have learned not to sit down, and headed for the train station for a 10:15 ride to Rome. On the way we swung by the Church of Santa Maria Novella and Brian rested outside while Theresa went in and looked at the first painting to ever use "one point perspective", a minor big deal. We boarded the train and this time sat in our very own reserved seats in first class. We're not sure why Eurail grownups have to sit in first class, but we are getting used to it. In the hour and a half trip Brian worked up a web page or two and Theresa sketched. From our landing in the Rome Termini, we headed the three blocks to the absolutely great Beehive Hostel. We have a double room with a private bath down the hall, so don't be super impressed with our hosteling. The place is pretty hip and trendy and is only cheap relative to lodging in Rome. We couldn't check in yet, so we stored our backpacks and headed out for some touristing. We hit the Colosseum and the Forum, and around 6:00 returned to a really great home for the next four nights and enjoyed a very relaxing evening in some great digs.
