Rome, Italy to Naples, Italy

High Point: Finding the Hotel Europeo in the middle of 'old town' Naples
Low Point: Leaving Rome
Miles By Foot: 4
Miles By Train: 140
Today's Antiquities: The Gabinetto Segreto in the The Naples National Archeology Museum. Kidding
Today's Weather: Rainy in Rome, rainy in Naples. Sun breaks in the late afternoon. Muggy in the 70s.
Tonight's Lodging: The Hotel Europeo, Naples
Touristic Events: The Naples National Archeology Museum
Travel Tip: Do not ask a man who sells maps at a kiosk to help you find your hotel on a printed Google map. He will tell you your map is bad. We were 100 feet away.

Daily Didactic

Today we swapped the really pleasant Beehive "Sweets" for a nice room in a completely different aesthetic. We had breakfast in the Beehive cafe, packed, and headed for the Roma Termini a little before our noon train. We planted ourselves in our (reserved) first class seats and enjoyed the hour and fifteen minute ride to Naples. We had read that Naples was "grittier" than other Italian cities and that is certainly how it seems. Graffiti, which has covered most of the Italy we've seen so far, is absolutely everywhere. We tend to take pictures of the artsy stuff, but on the whole it is just unimaginative scrawling. We walked the mile or so from the Naploli Termini to the University/Old Town district and eventually found our hotel. Our (cheap) hotels in Europe so far are not what we think of in the states. They are often single or double floor operations in apartment buildings, tonight we are on the Italian 4th floor. Our room is nice, but the neighborhood is pretty rustic looking. It is a "touristy" part of town, so apparently that's just Naples. We made our way to The Naples National Archeology Museum about a half mile away and looked at a mountain of artifacts from nearby Pompeii, tomorrow's goal. After yet another indirect route home, we called it what feels like a long day.
