Daily Didactic

The day began with us leaving our new favorite place in Italy, at least in part because we couldn't afford to stay any longer. Today we were heading to Milan. Milan holds the Last Supper by Leonardo, but the odds of us seeing it are slim. The only way to see it is with an always sold out tour and the options we saw in Anchorage were all really expensive for fifteen minutes of ogling. The place we are staying recommended checking for last minute cancellations, but we are not clear on how that would make anything cheaper. We caught the train from Riomaggiore to Monterosso and then transferred to a first class cabin to Milan. It was one of those little rooms with six seats and Theresa made a new fan. We got off the train and managed to not find our room for long enough to actually end up back at the train station on accident. We did better on our second stab, but found that perhaps you really do get what you pay for. One of our cheapest rooms, this one came with bare and dirty walls and no window. There was a door onto a well traveled courtyard balcony we could leave open, but it was a little weird. We headed out for a bite to eat and then walked the Milan Fashion District and stumbled across the ridiculously ornate Milan Cathedral. We came back to our room (lit by a single bulb) watched some bad TV and contemplated other options.
