Day Eleven - Jun 1, 2012
Rome, Italy
Daily Didactic
It was a relatively short and productive day of touristing. We got moving earlyish and headed for the Pantheon, and ancient Roman Dome that was originally for pagan worship and was converted to a church in Christianity's first years. As a result, it has been in use for 2500 years or so. Yes, Rick Steves taught us that. It was, as most things here, pretty amazing. It also houses the tomb of Raphael, big deal renaissance painter. After the Pantheon, we swung by the Musei Capitolini to check out the Collosal Head of Constantine, formerly gigantically imposing down the hill in the Roman Forum. It was, in fact, pretty colossal. At this point it was early afternoonish and we were ready for pizza. We wandered looking for a Beehive recommended pizza joint, but (our navigation skills being what they are) we ended up at perfectly acceptable alternative. After two more full pizzas (margherita, which is the better equivalent to plain cheese here, cheap, with super thin crust) we walked through the park by the Trajan Baths and wandered home. We called it an end to touristing mid afternoon and settled back to enjoy our great room at the Beehive "Sweets" and after an evening walk to the market called it a day.
